Marikathryn Nooe, LPC
During 25 years of practice as a psychotherapist, I have developed dual specialties in the areas of trauma treatment and the evaluation, risk assessment and treatment of adult and juvenile sex offenders. Psychosexual evaluations can be completed for court purposes and provide a scientific basis to determine risk levels for sexual offense recidivism and identify treatment needs.
I believe trauma takes many forms and is the root of most mental health issues. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a treatment approach based in cognitive-behavioral therapy and specialized trauma treatments including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Guided Imagery, Hypnotherapy and Narrative therapy. All of these modalities are grounded in motivational interviewing and include education on the effects of trauma on the brain and the possibility of change through therapeutic interventions. Years of multicultural experience and specific training in dismantling racism and culturally competent practices have influenced my awareness of the inherent effects of the dominant culture on under-served populations and the intersectionality between racial trauma and other forms of trauma.
Compassion and respect for each client characterize my therapeutic style. I appreciate the courage it takes to make the first step toward change. I will honor your individual stories and provide a place of safety and comfort in which healing can begin. Everyone reaches adulthood with a variety of internal messages rooted in childhood which influence thinking, feelings and behavior. I believe in clients’ capabilities to discover inner strengths and challenge those messages which may have served a purpose in childhood, but are now hindering adult interactions and relationships. This can be a scary and difficult journey, but you are not alone. We travel together.
