Dr. Kadihjia Kelly, LPC

Hi, I'm Dr. Kadihjia Kelly, LPC, and my passion for empowering individuals has guided my 20-year career as a therapist. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, my early experiences fueled a deep desire to work with marginalized populations and advocate for those whose voices have been silenced or overlooked. My background in critical race theory has profoundly shaped my understanding of systemic inequalities, enriching my commitment to fostering change both within and outside the therapy room.

My inspiration to become a therapist stems from this unwavering commitment to advocacy and support. Specializing in trauma-informed care, I've dedicated myself to working with a broad spectrum of clients, ranging from 6 to 75 years old, including LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families. Through narrative therapy, I create a space where clients can openly share and reframe their stories, fostering healing and growth, while also considering the broader societal narratives that impact their lives.

Holding a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, a Master's in Community Counseling, and a Doctorate in Philosophy and Leadership, my educational background has equipped me with a robust foundation to support my clients effectively. The integration of critical race theory into my practice allows me to approach each client's story with a deeper awareness of the social and systemic factors that influence their experiences. The most rewarding aspect of my work is being part of someone's mental health journey and witnessing their resilience and transformation.

What sets me apart in the field of therapy is my specialized focus on working with trauma victims and survivors, coupled with my nuanced understanding of how intersectional identities and systemic oppressions affect mental health. My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that everyone's story matters. I am committed to listening without judgment, ensuring a supportive and empowering therapeutic relationship.

Outside of my professional life, I find solace and joy in reading, which not only provides a respite from the demands of work but also enriches my understanding of human experiences and emotions. This passion for reading complements my interest in critical race theory, allowing me to continuously expand my knowledge and empathy, further enhancing my therapeutic practice.

In every session, in every interaction, my goal is to offer guidance, support, and a safe space for healing and self-discovery. Together, we can explore your story, build resilience, and foster a sense of empowerment that transcends the therapy room, all while acknowledging and addressing the broader contextual factors that shape our lives.
